Resources For Flooded Farmers

Apr 02, 2019

Here are some of the initial steps that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recommends to jump-start the recovery process for those affected by the recent flooding:

Report your damage to your local emergency manager. This information can be used to assess further recovery needs. Call your insurance agent to see if there is coverage for your losses. Document your damage.  Take photos, video, and make lists of damaged items. Register with FEMA online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, or call 800-621-FEMA (3362). Be prepared to provide your current address, social security number, address of the damaged property, contact information, number of occupants in your household, insurance and income. Register, even if you are insured. Your insurance may not cover everything, and some damage may not show up until later. Do not wait for your insurance settlement before you register.

The State of Nebraska is working with public/private partnerships, volunteer organizations, faith-based organizations, and non-government organizations to identify unmet needs with available resources during the current flooding disaster. Visit this link http://www.nebraska.gov/nebraska-strong for helpful information or to request or donate resources today.

In addition, Nebraska Extension has developed a website https://flood.unl.edu where resources are listed which address:

  • Families & Individuals
  • Homeowners
  • Business & Communities
  • Agriculture

The Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) helps farmers and ranchers to repair damage to farmlands caused by natural disasters and to help put in place methods for water conservation during severe drought. Visit Emergency Conservation Program for more info or click HERE for the Disaster Assistance Fact Sheet.
