Frontier Cooperative announces today 27 members of their agronomy team have completed an intensive 2-day training with Land O’ Lakes, Inc.’s SUSTAIN® platform, furthering their commitment to provide for farmers’ futures.  The SUSTAIN® platform combines a set of proven, effective technologies, practices and products that improve nutrient use efficiency and soil health, all while enhancing productivity.

“We are extremely excited about the
opportunity the SUSTAIN® platform provides our growers to improve efficiency and profit potential," says marketing manager for Frontier Cooperative, Jon Brabec. “The SUSTAIN® platform is helping our growers reach the broad scale masses with their story of stewardship, feeding the world, and positively impacting society.”

Farmers participating in the SUSTAIN® platform will work with Frontier’s highly-trained business agronomy staff to bring the latest knowledge and science to the field in ways that are practical, usable, and effective in improving crop management for economic benefit and reduced risk.

“The demand for nutrient optimization tools is at an all-time high,” noted Matt Carstens, senior vice president of sustainability at Land O’Lakes, “We care about the long-term success of the locally controlled member-owners and their customers. This means we strive to provide resources for our member owners to help customers to maintain their land for future generations. The SUSTAIN platform helps improve productivity and input efficiency while building soil health and enhancing stewardship of natural resources.”

The two-day training includes expert teaching on why sustainability is important, how the components in the SUSTAIN platform work to improve grower efficiency, and how to build confidence in sharing the SUSTAIN platform with growers.  The key component areas of the platform include the following:

  • Enhanced farm productivity. The SUSTAIN® platform benefits growers through practices and technologies that improve efficiency and profit potential, protect soil health, all while maintaining high yield potential.

  • Reduced risks. The SUSTAIN®platform will help growers manage production risks in the face of unpredictable weather and price fluctuations.

  • Increased confidence. The SUSTAIN®platform will provide growers with more detailed management information, enabling them to know more about what is happening in their fields, and thus have more confidence in ways to optimize while minimizing the risks of change.

  • Increased market appeal for their farms. The SUSTAIN®platform will position growers at the forefront of marketplace momentum on sustainability. An increasing number of companies like Kellogg’s, General Mills, Campbell's, and Unilever are developing and implementing sustainability programs aimed at improving the environmental footprint of commodity grain crops.

  • Improved reputation. The SUSTAIN®platform offers farmers and their retailers a way to document and communicate their effective and responsible management of the land. The platform will enable farmers to show their neighbors and the public at large the value their lands bring to water quality, climate stability, soil conservation, and food security.

“The SUSTAIN® platform is helping us spread the message that our customers/producers are stewards of the land,“ Brabec adds, “This message of sustainability can then be translated from field to fork and reach consumers across all sectors in the United States and other areas of the world.”
