Every year, Land O' Lakes recognizes farmers leading sustainability efforts on their farms and in the ag industry. This year, several of Frontier Coop's growers were recognized for their commitment to sustainable practices that positively impact the environment and their farms' bottom lines. Local growers, Matt and Tina Rezac of Rezac Farms in Weston, Nebr., received the award for Outstanding Sustainability in Conservation Agronomy.
Rezac Farms was one of 12 operations honored at the SUSTAIN Innovation Summit held in Hollywood, Fla., in December. The three-day event gathered more than 200 farmers from across the United States and Canada, with representation from major retailers, consumer packaged goods companies, and environmental groups. The attendees engaged in presentations and panel discussions aimed at educating each other about practical solutions for on-farm sustainability that can meet the needs of all stakeholders from farm to fork.
Established in July 2016, the Land O' Lakes SUSTAIN business focuses on helping ensure sustainable production in agriculture by delivering insights, products and services; enhancing sustainability with the Dairy Foods and Feed businesses; and partnering with other entities to improve efficiency and collaboration on conservation and sustainability programs.
Other local farmers who participated in the 2017 SUSTAIN platform and attended the event were Midland Farms, Mead; AA Farms, North Bend; Stara Farms, David City; and Vandenberg Farms, David City.
