Frontier Cooperative Donates to Local Food Banks

In the recent months, the world has seen the impacting events of COVID-19 on communities, businesses, and individuals. In times like these, agriculture remains essential to the Nebraska economy. According to the United States Department of Labor in May, 36 million people filed for Unemployment claims in the United States in just 60 days. To put this into perspective, this is the equivalent of 18 times the entire population of Nebraska. One of Frontier’s Core Values as a company is to ‘Make a Difference.’
“Now is our chance to do the right thing and make a difference,” says Jeremy Wilhelm, Chief Executive Officer of Frontier Cooperative.
In early May, the employees of Frontier Cooperative were asked to give, no matter how big or small the amount. The goal was for each location to collect canned food and monetary donations to be distributed to local food banks in each of Frontier’s five regions. “There are so many people who are out of work, who are not considered essential workers like we are. So, we are very fortunate that we were able to retain our jobs and not have to worry about where our next meal is going to come from or our next paycheck. It’s a good thing for us to pay it back,” says Sara Ramsey, accounting clerk from Frontier’s Elk Creek location. While keeping the employees in mind, five $100 dollar gift cards were drawn and given out to an employee of each region who participated.
After the donations were gathered Frontier and its employees donated close to $4,500 and several boxes of food to six local food banks of each region’s choice. The six food banks were: Fullerton Food Bank, Colfax County Food Pantry, Blue Valley Community Action, Blessings Food Pantry, Center for People in Need, and Southeast Nebraska Community Action.
“In a time like this, it is important that we all support our local communities, and that is what Frontier Cooperative is all about,” says Matt Murren, facility operations and tender truck driver from Frontier’s North Bend location.
