Frontier Coop Teams Up For Flood Relief Concert Fundraiser

WAHOO, NE – What started as a reason to get out of the house at the end of a long winter has turned into a major benefit event for Nebraska flood relief. In early March, as the seemingly unending snow was piling up, the newly renovated Starlite Event Center planned a “Spring Fever” concert featuring two local bands—Bucka Ruse from Yutan, and Sack of Lions from Council Bluffs.
However, as a result of last week’s historic flooding and devastation, a new idea was quickly hatched to find a way to help those affected. The Starlite Event Center in Wahoo has teamed up with Frontier Cooperative, KX96.9 radio, and Sanderson Auctioneers to turn the Spring Fever concert into a flood relief fundraiser, with donations benefiting the American Red Cross Nebraska Flood Campaign.
Rob Kelley, operations manager for KX96.9, said this is something the community can do to help those affected by the flooding. The idea for a benefit concert was initially pitched by staff at the radio station.
“When you see Nebraska suffering, we just felt as a staff we had to do something,” he said.
That same thought was shared by Frontier Cooperative.
“Frontier Coop has a lot of locations and patrons affected by the floods, so we immediately came onboard to support this event for flood relief efforts,” said Linne Vavrina, director of marketing at Frontier Coop. “That’s something I’ve always thought was special about the cooperative system—when communities need help, we show up.”
The Spring Fever Concert for Flood Relief will be Friday, March 29 at the Starlite Event Center, located at 2045 County Road K, three miles west of Wahoo on Highway 92. The doors will open at 5 p.m., with food, including Lenten options, offered at 6 p.m. Frontier Coop will be donating the food and volunteers for the event. The country band Bucka Ruse will take the stage at 7 p.m. Following their set, a live auction coordinated by Sanderson Auctioneers will take place. Event goers will be able to bid on a variety of items donated by local businesses and organizations, including guided hunting trips, a week condo stay on the Ash River in Minnesota, Exmark and Cub Cadet riding lawn mowers, Stihl equipment, suites at Pinnacle Bank Arena, a quilt, cabin stay in Nebraska, a signed guitar, and more. There will also be a silent auction running throughout the evening. Following the live auction, the band Sack of Lions will close the night with a country rock set. Ticket prices are $10 per person, with a portion of the ticket sales going to the American Red Cross Nebraska Flood Campaign. All the proceeds from the auctions and food stand will also go to the campaign.
“It stays in Nebraska, and it will get to the flood victims,” said Bobby Vigrl, one of the owners of Starlite Event Center.
